Floyd County Search and Rescue
Search and Rescue, organized under Floyd County Emergency Management, is a non-profit government entity tasked with providing emergency response and support services to the residents and visitors of Floyd County, Iowa. When called upon by neighboring communities, FCSAR is ready to assist where needed. Membership is made up of volunteers with experience in firefighting, law enforcement, emergency medical services, military training and other related fields. In addition to monthly meetings and training, the 20 active members also participate in routine certifications, advanced training and continued education.
The organization’s multi-emergency rescue vehicle (MERV) and rescue watercraft are stationed at the Charles City Fire Department, providing a central location for quick responses throughout the area.
Floyd County Search and Rescue is a member of the Floyd County Firefighter’s Association and the Charles City Area Chamber of Commerce.

The members respond to all structure fires within the county to assist local fire departments with firefighter rehab, air supply and general scene support. They also respond to all motor vehicle accidents involving trapped or injured victims to remove victims, aid with patient care and conduct traffic control. Additionally, FCSAR assists area ambulance services when extra manpower or equipment is needed.

Located in north central Iowa, the 504 square miles of Floyd County consists primarily of rural land and small farming communities. The most recent census information estimates the county’s population to be near 16,300 with 56% of the people residing in rural areas. The county is intersected by the Avenue of the Saints four-lane highway, providing a heavily traveled route between St. Louis MO, and St. Paul, MN. Twenty-one public recreational areas with over 1,365 acres of land offer outdoor enthusiasts the opportunity for hiking, hunting, primitive camping and other activities. Three rivers, several ponds and a planned kayak course makes water recreation a popular activity in the area.
